Weddings full of intention have become one of the most heartfelt ways couples are choosing to celebrate, and it’s something I’ve loved seeing. Sometimes it’s a family farm wedding or a private estate wedding, and I love it every time. There’s a different kind of peace and purpose that comes from getting married on familiar ground. Keep reading to learn how to plan a Wisconsin wedding where instead of feeling rushed, watched, you plan it with the intention of building space to slow down, breathe, and truly take in the day.
Because your wedding isn’t a performance or a competition. It’s the beginning of a marriage. A covenant, a story, a future. And sometimes the most ordinary places become the most sacred.
Avery and Emily’s wedding is such a beautiful example of that intention, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Every couple has their own reasons, but here are a few I see most often:
1. To Create a Day That Feels Like Them
Intentional weddings give you permission. Permission to plan slowly, to add meaning, to choose you over trends. Your space becomes a reflection of who you are, not what the wedding world says things should look like.

2. To Get Married Somewhere Personal
There’s something powerful about exchanging vows on land that’s held family, childhood memories, or future dreams. Whether it’s a private estate wedding or a family farm wedding, place matters. It becomes part of your legacy.

3. To Experience the Day Fully
Planning a Wisconsin wedding with intention allows you to stay present: to linger, to laugh, to connect.
And that presence makes all the difference.

Before picking rentals, colors, or decor, ask yourselves:
Let those answers guide every decision.

Wisconsin keeps us on our toes! Sunshine, wind, rain… Sometimes all within an hour. Having a backup plan ahead of time brings peace of mind, and if the clouds roll in? Let them. Weather can’t touch the heart of the day.

Even if you’re planning a wedding on family land, you shouldn’t have to manage logistics. A coordinator can help with timeline flow, rentals, power sources, parking, permits, setup, cleanup: all so you can simply be present and not have to worry about the small stuff.

One of the main priorities of an intentional wedding should be time. No rushing. No strict deadlines. Give yourselves space to enjoy the morning, hug family, take unhurried portraits, and watch the sunset together.

No traditions required, no expectations to meet, no rules you must follow.
Dinner-only reception?
Private first dance?
Puppy as ring bearer?
An ice cream truck instead of a cake?
If it feels like you, it belongs in your day.

Here are a few intentional touches I’ve seen couples love:
Include your dog, because family looks different for everyone.

Get ready in your childhood bedroom. The nostalgia is unmatched!

Incorporate stations or personal food moments, like a popcorn bar, Culver’s custard, or a hot dog cart, from your first date.

Create cozy seating pockets: blankets, lanterns, lawn chairs, fire pits!
Rent a dance floor and string lights. It’s simple, timeless, and romantic.

It’s not about impressing guests, it’s about inviting them into your story.
Avery and Emily were married in Sauk City, Wisconsin, on a family farm. Their ceremony took place in the exact spot where they’ll someday build their home, meaning every anniversary, every morning coffee, every ordinary Tuesday will carry a glimpse of this beginning. What a gift.
Their details were thoughtful, personal, and full of heart:
Their pup, Brie, was part of the celebration
Guests arrived at the ceremony by tractor
Many decor pieces were handmade
Emily arrived in a cherished family heirloom vehicle
Bridesmaids chose dresses they loved; no rules, no pressure
Nothing felt forced or overly curated; everything had purpose.
And when the reception began? It was joy from start to finish: Dancing under the stars, hands full of Culver’s late-night snacks, friends and family celebrating without restraint. The kind of night people still talk about months later.
Emily and Avery trusted me with their story. They allowed movement, direction, quiet moments, and spontaneity. We even snuck out for two sets of sunset photos based on the weather forecast… and it was so worth it.
Their gallery ended up being the perfect blend of natural unfolding moments and gently posed editorial portraits: warm, true-to-life, timeless, and emotionally rich.
